Calgary – North West Redwater Partnership (NWR) announced Friday the partnership’s two boards have approved the construction of Phase 1 of the Sturgeon Refinery. NWR says it will build and operate a world-class bitumen refinery in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland, which will add significant value to Alberta’s bitumen resources in a responsible and sustainable manner. The first 50,000 barrels per day phase of the bitumen refinery has a cost estimate of $5.7 billion and is expected to take approximately three years to build, with above ground construction starting in spring 2013… […]

Sturgeon County – Morinville RCMP and volunteer firefighters have been busy responding to weather-related collisions.

Morinville RCMP were dispatched to a three-vehicle collision on Highway 37 near Range Road 244 in Sturgeon County around 8:20 a.m. Thursday morning. Upon arrival it was determined that an eastbound Chevrolet Blazer lost control and collided with a westbound Ford F-150. A westbound Dodge Ram then collided with the Chevrolet Blazer. Morinville – The campaign to save the steeple of historic St. Jean Baptiste Church is a lot closer to reality now that the fundraising campaign is $1,100 shy of its $250,000 goal. The parish learned this fall they could apply for a federal matching dollar grant that could give them up to $250,000 of the half million needed to do repairs to the church’s steeple, damaged by years of rain and wood rot.
