The Morinville Kings opened the 2015-2016 North Central Hockey League Season with a 5-4 win over the visiting Drayton Valley Wildcats. The home opener was a big win for the Kings. Prior to their one-year hiatus last year, the Kings had never been able to beat the Wildcats, and Saturday night’s contest saw the Kings edging them out by a goal.

Enbridge supports Sturgeon Foundation project

On Oct. 13 Lisa Seeley, Enbridge Community Relations Advisor and Ian Melligan, Manager Enbridge Pipeline Services Western Region presented a $7500 cheque to the Sturgeon Foundation. The presentation took place at the Spruce View Manor in Gibbons with Jim Fowler Director of Accommodation Services accepting on behalf of the foundation. The money will be used to cover the cost of installing more than 100 smoke detectors and fire extinguishers in every self-contained unit under the Sturgeon Foundation umbrella. This consists of units at Sunrise and Sunset Villas in Legal, Pinecrest Gardens in Gibbons, Sunridge Sunset Manors in Bon Accord, Heritage Lodge and Lions Manor in Morinville, the Golden Villa in Redwater and Chateau Mission Court in St. Albert. After a brief Administrative update, Council and Administration have confirmed their Oct. 15 meeting with surrounding municipalities on the rec centre project is a go. As well, Mayor Holmes confirmed the attendance of officials from Alexander First Nation at the meeting. The Town has said they are beginning to work with the new Architectural and project management firm hired for the project (ATB) in preparation for this meeting and their introductions to surrounding municipalities. Council gives slew of Land Use Bylaw first readings

Council has passed First Reading of Land Use Bylaws 17/2015, 18/2015, 19/2015 and 20/2015. Bylaws 17/2015 and 18/2015 have been classified by the Town’s head of Planning and Development Greg Hofmann as “housekeeping amendments” to the Land Use Bylaw. Bylaw 17/2015 makes some changes to the Land Use Bylaw that modernize the law and keep it a “living document”, according to Hofmann. They will come back for discussion and debate at Council’s Nov. 10 meeting for second and potentially third reading. […]
