Letter: Mr. Harper Continues to Misinform Canadians

I know that I was not alone in my horror in seeing the washed up body of a three year old child on the Turkish Shores that occurred last week. There is just one thing that is more horrid than this photo; and that is the response of Prime Minister Harper to the people of Canada – and the world. In the interviews that I heard, Stephen Harper stated that Canada is doing more than any of the G Eight countries to relieve the situation in relation to the Syrian refugees. All Canadians know that this is a misrepresentation of reality! […]

Letter: If safety is the goal, farm families would know best

As many of you have heard, Alberta’s new Agriculture Minister has announced plans to extend Occupational Health and Safety legislation to farmers.

The announcement came with no legal details or timeline, or even an explanation of how the policy shift would impact family farms across Alberta. Rather, it seems this decision was made without speaking to farmers at all. […]

Letter: Cardiff road speeding solutions

Dear Mr. Schaefer, Director of Corporate Operations:

It’s time for action! For more than five years, we have been shown through the photo radar quarterly reports that Cardiff Road at/near 94th Street has a speeding problem. You are absolutely correct to point out that the design of this road (e.g. narrow and no shoulders) makes it dangerous for our conventional law enforcement officers to enforce the speed limits. The growth of South Glens and Cardiff over the last five years has resulted in making Cardiff Road busier all the time. Since the road has never been upgraded to reflect the growth factor, we all recognize the problems. […]

Local realtors Don Summers and Doris Jolicoeur will soon be leaving Morinville after 20 years for the warmth and beaches of St. Lucia. The Professional Realty agents were featured on HGTV’s Caribean Life last spring as they looked for a property on the island. That goal and dream is now a reality as the couple recently got a purchase agreed to.
“We have a deal. We have funds to our solicitor,” said Don Summers, adding the deal is set to close Sept. 14, and the couple are planning to be on the island in mid-October.
