RCMP report reduction in serious traffic incidents over holidays

Traffic fatalities, injuries and damage to property were down between Dec. 23, 2015 and Jan. 3, 2016 compared to the same holiday period of 2014.

Provincial holiday traffic statistics released by the RCMP Jan. 5 show there was one traffic fatality and 95 motor vehicle-related injuries during the period as well as 1204 instances of damaged property. […]

One-day check stop nabs 153 impaired drivers

RCMP released numbers from their Dec. 4 province-wide check-stop blitz Thursday. Police say results indicate drivers are still getting behind the wheel when they are in no shape to drive. RCMP conducted check-stop operations in 259 locations within local RCMP jurisdictions and on Alberta highways Dec. 4, stopping more than 20,500 vehicles. […]

Police looking for impaired drivers this month

The Morinville RCMP will be focusing on impaired drivers during the month of August, part of the detachment’s ongoing efforts to keep area roads safe by participating with provincial sheriffs and other law enforcement agencies. Each month, police have a particular traffic safety focus. In July, police kept their eyes on occupant restraints, particularly drivers not wearing them. Although August’s focus is on impaired drivers due to increased traffic, it is something the detachment is vigilant about year round. […]

Morinville – Sirens screamed through the streets behind Morinville Community High School (MCHS) Wednesday morning as police, paramedics and firefighters arrived at the scene of a two-vehicle collision that claimed the life of two teenagers, sent another to hospital, and saw a fourth charged with impaired driving. The upside to Wednesday’s student tragedy was the fact the deceased took off the theatrical makeup and walked away, the injured student climbed out of the ambulance and returned to class, and the impaired student’s charge was purely for show… […]
